Life Interrupted: It’s Not All About Me Tate Publishing & Enterprises, 2008 A quote from the book…”If the writing of this book helps just one couple save their relationship, it will have been time well spent.” Life Interrupted: It’s Not All About Me, by Chris Tatevosian, is an autobiographical account of the author’s life with Multiple Sclerosis; it is written from the heart. The author shares how he was diagnosed at a time in his life when he had dreams and expectations for his future, how his life was affected by MS, and his struggles to remain a healthy and active individual. That’s just the beginning of the book. The second part of the book focuses on how MS affected not only him but his relationship with his wife at the time. Mr. Tatevosian shares the mistakes he made and describes his “poor me attitude”. The author does not gloss over his mistakes but is brutally honest with his emotions, thoughts and behaviors. This is a book not only for those with a chronic illness or disability but for anyone who needs to gain a better understanding of how words and actions can destroy relationships. Mr. Tatevosian makes a great impact on addressing the “poor me attitude” in a book of only 147 pages. It seems like a short read, but there is so much insight from the author that it is a must have. Thank you, Chris Tatevosian, for sharing your life story with us. |

Chris was an active college student. Then, the symptoms of MS hit him. He finished his education, married, and became a step-father.
His disease worsened. He wanted to continue his normal life. His mind was willing, but his body was too weak. He became angry and lashed out at others. His wife ended up leaving him because of his bitterness and anger.
Chris now realizes that the break-up was his fault. Even with MS and its horrible effects, you have to treat others as you want to be treated. He hopes this book is a beacon to others suffering from MS or any other life-altering disease. This book is a compassionate kick in the pants to those suffering and taking it out on loved-ones.
"Life Interrupted, it's not all about me" is without a doubt the best book I have ever read that depicts the challenges of a persons first reaction to hearing the news they are no longer going to be able to do the things they love doing and have done all their lives....run, jump, walk, swim, ride a bike, drive, see, write, feel, and enjoy life as others do. That is like a slap in the face to anyone, but Chris puts his experience down that path in a manner that everyone can relate, disabled or not.
"This book is a must read, not only for people with a serious illness, but for anyone looking to gain a better understanding of how words and actions can destroy relationships. The author is brutally honest in his attempt to help others realize the mistakes he made along the way. This book is funny, sad, informative and inspirational all rolled into one easy to read book. "

"This first-hand account of author Chris Tatevosian's battle with multiple sclerosis shines for its honesty, courage and insightful message. He details the progression of the disease from age eighteen to the present as well as describing the effect his disease had on his marriage. The author's understanding of how a chronic disease of any kind has consequences for the caregiver, in this case his wife Rachel, rings true for anyone living in similar circumstances. It's a very helpful book to gain insight into how destructive negative "poor me" behavior can be for both the person harboring resentments as well as for those living nearby. I was very moved by the highly personal and sincere description of the author's disease and relationship difficulties. Multiple sclerosis is a dreadful disease and as a reader you feel the emotional and physical effects that occur as the disease progresses. It is a very heartfelt book that touched me on many levels. I especially liked the fact that the author took responsibility for his own actions. I think that this is the message that permeates the book. You can't control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude about it. This is an excellent book about chronic disease and those who are affected by it." |
"Life Interrupted is a great book to help readers understand what it is like to live and love with a disability. The author is truthful about his struggles within a relationship that didn't work, and he desperately wants the reader to understand how not to make the same mistakes. This book is a must have for anyone who knows of someone with a disability. It is an extremely helpful guide for others living with MS and those that love them. I highly recommend Life Interrupted to anyone who is interested in a heartfelt, true story. It will certainly be an inspiration to all, and is as funny as it is truthful. It is an easy read, and can be easily shared with others. It is quite refreshing to read the author's point of view, along with his desires to helping the needs of others. "
He says he wrote the book to give the readers "the awareness, knowledge and understanding they need to deal more positively with the emotional and physical stresses put on a relationship interrupted by chronic illness or disability." His book is about relationships and living with MS from his male point of view. The frankness is refreshing and not offensive. His writing is simple and direct - not one for winning prizes but easy to read. He talks of his journey and you may find you are reading about your similar journey. We each have our own experiences and personalities where we react and think differently. It is good to read different life perspectives to help us focus on our own and where we could look to improve our attitude or circumstances. If you like reading about other people's lives with MS, this will appeal to you. Maybe it will encourage you to write your own story and share it with others. Chris has produced a seemingly honest portrayal of his life and lessons he has learned. He wrote about what he knows, which is always a plus in my book."
Life Interrupted Addresses Relationship Issues and MS Submitted by Chris Ratliff Editor MSfocus.org "While a freshman attending Johnson state College in himVermont, Chris Tatevosian was diagnosed with MS. He graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and a minor in Chemistry. For seven years, he was an analytical chemical technician before becoming an occupational safety coordinator/consultant. “My disease was relapsing remitting up until 1990,” Chris says. “That was the year I began dating the woman who would eventually become my wife. Everything was tremendous until I suffered a major exacerbation in May 1993, at which time I became disabled and unable to work. After several difficult years, we were divorced. It was one of the darkest times of my life.” In his recently published book, Life Interrupted, It's Not All About Me, Chris shares the details of his life with MS before, during, and after his first marriage. This candid memoir examines the ways in which the author’s destructive attitude and inability to cope cost him his marriage. Chris hopes his story might help others make more of an effort to communicate effectively with their loved ones and not allow disability and low self-worth to destroy their relationships. Chris also writes about his faith in God, his experiences with bee venom therapy, and his fiancée, Jane, to whom he is now married. Life Interrupted: It's Not All About Me, is published by Tate Publishing Enterprises and is available from http://www.tatepublishing.com/ and available at all outlets after the October 14,2008 release date."

unbelievable courage to tell the world about his mistakes, how you can still love life, and once again see the light at the end of the tunnel. The author tells the readers about his feelings, emotions, and experiences as multiple sclerosis progressively worsened. More important, he describes how a disability can not only destroy the person who has it, but everyone he comes in contact with. In many cases, the misery and anger felt by the person who is disabled is also felt by his caretakers, and loved ones. This memoir of tender feelings is heartfelt, funny, and uplifting. The story is enormously entertaining as we read about a life lived by a man who is filled with faith, and spirit. His encouraging words conveyed to the public to be there for the joy, the tears, and each other, will truly leave an afterthought in the mind of every reader. I recommend this book to everyone who had to deal with a disability of any kind, and to everyone who is married, or is engaged. Chris clearly defines the building blocks of marriage, why those blocks may begin to crumble, and how to prevent those blocks from falling. The trials and tribulations of Chris M. Tatevosian's life is an inspiration to all. "LIFE INTERRUPTED: IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT ME" is as heartwarming and emotional as PATCH ADAMS with Robin Williams. |
I felt the book was very honest and not embelished. It kept to the point's that he was trying to make. Yes it is not all about me. And a sense of humor is very important for ones coping abilities. I am a woman who has had this dreadful challenging disease for about 50 years. I felt compasion for his challenges and I am proud for Chris in the way that he handled his life. The change's that he continued to learn to make so that life worked for him are admirable. It appears that Chris has gown a great deal. I think that what he has to say is very inspiring to others who are open to listening, including myself. I wish him and his family well. |
